Monel400 corrosion resistance
Ni68Cu28Fe (Monel 400) alloy has good corrosion resistance, is more corrosion resistant than pure nickel in reducing medium, and is more resistant to corrosion in copper in oxidizing medium. Since this alloy is a single-phase austenite solid solution alloy, there is no corrosion caused by the galvanic reaction between the different phases of the complex phase alloy.
A general corrosion
a atmospheric corrosion
In the atmosphere, Ni68Cu28Fe (Monel 400) alloy has extremely high corrosion resistance and is an extremely corrosion resistant alloy. Figure 5-17 shows the results of a 20-year test conducted under atmospheric conditions in different parts of the United States. The 20-year test results in the marine atmosphere indicate that Ni68Cu28Fe (Monel 400) also exhibits excellent corrosion resistance. In Kure Beach, North Carolina, USA, 24.4m away from the ocean, the average corrosion rate was less than 0.00025mm/a for a 20-year exposure test. The comparison data with other alloys is shown in Table 5-17.
Alloy | Average Weight Loss/mgxdm ~2 | Average corrosion rate/mmxa-1 |
200 | 486.6 | 〈0, 0025 |
0Cr20Ni32AlTi (800alloy) | 279 | 〈0, 0025 |
0Cr15Ni75Fe(600alloy) | 19.7 | 〈0,0025 |
Ni68Cu28Fe(Monel 400) | 644.7 | 〈0, 0025 |
0Cr21Ni42Mo8Ti(825alloy) | 8.7 | 〈0, 0025 |
Hanging location: NC, Kure, USA, 24.4m from the ocean, no pitting corrosion on Ni200 and 600 alloys, average depth of 4 deepest etch points of other alloys <0, 025mm
